Crimson Desert is one of those games that doesn’t hold your hand. It reminds of the likes of Breath of the Wild that had very little hints and tutorials. But it seems Crimson Desert takes this game design to a whole new level. Many of the game’s most basic systems are hidden from the player.
While the lack of hand holding works for a lot of players, not everyone will take this well. So, of course, this is where I come in. Your go-to guide man!
One of the examples of Crimson Desert’s game design we are talking about is the lack of information and guidance around launching the Howling Hill Expansion Mission.
After you’re done with Reed Devil, you are asked to start camp expansion mission. But how to do it? How do you start the Howling Hill Expansion mission in Crimson Desert? Let me explain.
How To Start The Howling Hill Expansion Mission

When the player arrives back at the camp for the start of A Gentle Touch quest, you’ll find a hidden letter at the shrine from Shakatu. Read the letter and it will let you know that resources to expand the camp are on their way. This letter is main point of confusion in this quest.
While the letter says that resources are coming, waiting for them to arrive is a waste of time. They won’t come to your camp, what you must do is send your recruits to collect the resources.
What you need to do is open your map and hover over the Howling Hills Camp icon, hold down the Triangle button on PlayStation or X on Xbox to open the camp menu. Navigate to Missions, select Recruits you wish to send for this quest, and dispatch them.
From here on it is waiting game. The best course of action is taking a nap to skip time. By the time you wake up, the recruits will be back at the camp with the resources you need to expand the camp.
In total, there are 18 in-game hours you must wait for the recruits to come back to the camp. When the recruits are back, you also much donate 100 in-game currency to your camp. You can do this via the manage supplies menu.
If the option is not available, speak with Carl at camp.
