Stealing items in Crimson Desert works a bit differently than other games. While it is possible, but you can’t steal items in Crimson Desert without putting a mask on. According to the game, mask is the only thing that lets you engage in “allows criminal behavior” which means stealing items requires a mask.
But how to get this mask? The simplest way to get a mask in Crimson Desert is completing a bounty, Jeffery. The task is simple; Jeffery is a criminal and you need to bring him to the authorities.
Jeffery is a bounty target in Hernand and handing him over to the authorities unlocks the mask. The mask then allows you to steal items in Crimson Desert.
How to Find and Capture Jeffery in Crimson Desert
You can start by going to the Hernand Guard Captain in Chapter 2. It is west of Hernand Castle. Speak with the Hernand Guard Captain and take the bounty notice. The bounty notice is on the pole, a poster with Jeffery’s face on it. Hold L1 to grab the notice and start the quest.

Jeffery’s location is marked on your map with a giant white sigil. Go to the location and wait for Jeffery to show up. Jeffery the pickpocket patrols the area wearing a hood and a sleeveless top. Approach Jeffery and tackle him by pressing Triangle/X.
The next step is beating him into submission. Strike with repeated blows and he will give in. Once Jeffery the pickpocket is beaten into submission, Kliff will tie him and then you can carry him to the Guard Captain. The location of the Guard Captain will be marked on your map.

As a reward for catching Jeffery in Crimson Desert, you’ll get the mask that allows you to steal items.
How to Steal and Sell Items in Crimson Desert
To start stealing items in Crimson Desert you need to equip the mask. With the mask on your face, approach items you wish to steal to be met with the “steal” prompt.
You can steal various items: valuables (paintings, vases, jewelry), from containers (strongboxes, chests, some may involve puzzles), pickpocketing NPCs (bump into them to stagger, then use the prompt), or even livestock/wagons for resale.
- Steal when no one is looking.
- Hide in corners or wait out the red zone.
- Over-stealing from the same shop/area can cause merchants to leave (“disturbances in the area”), permanently closing the shop and hurting regional trade.
Stealing lowers your faction/region contribution (e.g., Hernand reputation) by ~5 points per item, raising vendor prices or locking interactions if too low.
Selling stolen items is hard because normal vendors will know it’s a hot item. Stolen items are sold to Black Market vendors in Crimson Desert. One of the Black Market merchants is Goldleaf Tradepost in the Serkis Estate (south of Hernand).

Non-stolen goods can be sold to regular vendors in Crimson Desert.
