Where To Find Rody & Johanna’s Kite in Cairn (Love Birds Achievement)

While we are climbing the mountain in Cairn it is often easy to forget there is so much to do other then just going up the mountain in Cairn. You can find different Keepsakes like the Frog and Small Windmill but even beyond that you can unlock achievements by doing helping the NPCs.

One of the interactions is with Rody and Johanna who wish to get their kite back. This is the Love Birds Achievement/trophy and when you do get the kite back it ties to a heart touching story between the two characters.

The kite is placed in a hidden, optional high-altitude area known in the community as “The Secret.”

You can only find Rody and Johanna’s kite once you reach a certain way up the mountain. So naturally go through the game’s progression, pick up the Frog Keepsake and the Small Windmill Keepsake, and whatever else you want to do.

Until, you reach the point in Cairn where Marco disappears and you have to find him. Cairn also introduced ice climbing mechanics to the player.

You need to keep climbing up the mountain until you reach the section where the mountain splits into two peaks. This is part of the optional area before the summit.

These areas often have:

  • Narrow ledges
  • Wooden platforms or walkways
  • Wind-blown ridges

This region is signposted by environmental cues, seagulls, softer lighting, and calmer air pockets, compared to the harsh winds earlier.

Out of the two peaks you need to focus on the one on the right. At the top of this peak there is wooden walkway and on this walkway is the where you can find Rody and Johanna’s kite in Cairn.

Walk the wooden walkway and approach the kite slowly until the game gives you the prompt. The interaction will let you cut the kite’s string or otherwise let the kite free. When the kite is released it will fly away, triggering the Love Birds achievement in Cairn.

This area isn’t part of the main story, so players often skip it if they aren’t exploring intentionally. Resting at nearby Bivouac save spots makes backtracking easier if you miss the kite on your first approach. If you complete the climb and see the end credits without doing this interaction, you’ll likely need to reload a previous save or restart to unlock it.
