If there is one thing you need the most in Cairn then that is Troglodyte Pitons. Unfortunately, there are only three of them you can find in the game. One of these pitons is found in the later part of the game and it is a bit hard to navigate.
Pitons are permanent anchors during your climb, they never break, unlike normal pitons. There are three Troglodyte Pitons Cairn:
- The third in The Secret
- The first in The Vault area
- The second below the Palace of Wind (The Ancient Guardian)
The second Troglodyte Piton is associated with The Ancient achievement, and unlike the first, it’s tucked away in a dangerous, easily missed section of the mountain.
How to Find the Second Troglodyte Piton
The second Troglodyte Piton is under the bridge leading to the Palace of Wind. It is the same palace where we found the Small Windmill Keepsake. However, instead of your inside we are going to climb down under the bridge from palace’s side.
Climbing down from the Wooden Bridge is done through a piton. Luckily there is a free piton here that helps you drop down to the stairs below.
When you drop down head left to grab the ledges.
From the very end of the ledge place a piton and drop down to the rock formation. At the rock formation we will move toward the opening of the cave, place a piton at a certain position and swing toward the ledge to grab it.
After placing the piton at the exact position I’m showing in the gameplay screenshot above, repel down because it is time to swing your way to the ledge.
Use the movement sticks on your controller or WASD keys on your keyboard to swing back and forth until you can grab the ledge and climb up to the cave entrance.
There is a backpack right outside the cave entrance that has some painkillers if you want. Grab them and head inside the cave. The narrow pathway takes you straight into the heart of the cave and at the end of the path way you can turn right into the main room. However, there is closed off section on the left where you can pick up some Yellow Yak before taking the right turn.
Inside the main room there is save point. You can save the game there and come back to the doorway to the main room and repel down from the right if you want to loot the area.
To the left of the main room there is a giant crack in the wall that takes you to the next room.
In the next room you will find the Guardian Statue that has the second Troglodyte Piton.
Before you leave I recommend exploring the cave because there is plenty of loot here such as Clear Water, Alcohol, Mushrooms, and more.

You can just rappell down from the second ledge, then swing yourself across to the bottom.
After that you just need to climb some stairs and do a few horizontal traverses where the stairs are broken. Far easier than the first trog piton.
