In Starsand Island the player can catch 20 bugs that spawn in specific locations, seasons, weather conditions, and times of day. Catching them is a great early-game source of gold (by selling), crafting materials (e.g., Protein Powder in a Separator), fulfilling NPC requests, or ranching bees for honey.
How to Catch All Bugs in Starsand Island
To catch bugs you first need to craft a Bug Net. Just like you need a fishing rod to catch fishes like the Glowfish, bugs require the Bug Net. And to craft the Bug Net you need its blueprint. Thankfully, it is automatically receive the blueprint after completing the tutorial (first few minutes of gameplay).
Bug Net crafting recipe is:
- 2x Fiber (chop small shrubs/plants)
- 2x Softwood (chop small trees/shrubs)
You don’t need to make any upgrades to your Worktable. The Bug Net can be crafted on the standard Workbench I that is built using basic materials like wood and stone.

Once you have the net, walk up to the bug you want to catch and swing the net to catch it. Bugs are used to make Protein Powder or can be sold for very little Gold. Catching bugs is a great way to make money early old. Some bugs like bees can be used for ranching.
